With about 8 weeks left of the school year, the Ford government is considering stricter rules on cell phones in schools. According to the education minister, they're reviewing a full cell phone ban and also looking into age limits for social media sites. Officials say they're working with the federal government on the potential of establishing national rules. Over-the-counter hearing aids could soon be available at Ontario retailers. The Ministry of Health has launched a 30-day consultation on allowing the sale and use of certain devices without a prescription. Health Canada has issued medical device licenses for some wireless earbuds that have built-in hearing aid capabilities, but Ontario law currently bans selling hearing aids unless it's prescribed by a doctor or audiologist. A doctor's prescription will set you back upwards of $8,000 for a pair of hearing aids. The new Defense Investment Agency is already getting an influx of cash and responsibilities. As part of the Liberal government's spring economic update, new funding is being tapped to give the six-month-old office increased authority and independence. It's also getting the oversight of a new minister. The United Arab Emirates will leave OPEC effective Friday, stripping the oil cartel of its third largest producer and further weakening its leverage over global oil supplies and prices. The UAE in recent years has pushed back against OPEC production quotas it felt were too low. despite what's being considered an affordability crisis by many Canadians, the Bank of Canada is expected to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 2.25% when it announces its decision later this morning. Light 99, 3 sports, baseball yesterday, the Jays blanked Boston 3-0 and have one more game in that home series this afternoon at 3. NHL playoffs round one. Edmonton beat Anaheim 4-1, cutting the Ducks lead 3-2. Buffalo lost to Boston 2-1 in overtime and still leads 3-2. Minnesota beat Dallas, leading the series 3-2. Montreal is in Tampa Bay tonight at 7. That series tied 2-2. Also tonight, Pittsburgh is in Philly at 7.30. Philly leads 3-2. Utah is in Vegas tonight at 10. That series tied. OHL playoffs last night. Barry lost to Brantford and now trails the Series 3-1 and NBA playoffs tonight. The Raptors are in Cleveland at 7.30 for game 5. That's series tied 2-2.
